Michael BruceMichael Bruce
Born January 30, 1978
Murdered May 30, 1994

A misunderstanding led to the stabbing death of a 16 year old boy in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Slain was Michael Bruce, of the 100 block of Julian Drive, Wood Dale, who quarreled with a 17 year old female in Hoffman Estates on May 30, 1994. (She wasn't at the barbeque).

His friend's 19 year old brother, who allegedly stabbed Bruce during a quarrel over his sister's honor, is being sought.

Jennifer Bruce, Michael's mother, stated that the day began as a happy day. She took her son shopping to buy bratwurst and buns, then dropped him off about 4:30 pm at the Hoffman Estates home of a teenage boy who hosted the barbecue.

She and police said her son had a dispute with his female friend. Police, driving in the area, stopped to see what was happening, said both kids apologized to each other. Michael went back. The two told her brother, Hugo Zarco, something, we don't know what and at about 9:50 pm Monday, Hugo Zarco went to the home in the 100 block of West Berkley Lane where the barbecue was being held. He quarreled with Bruce, then pulled out a knife and stabbed him once in the chest, police said.

Michael was taken to Hoffman Estates Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from two stab wounds to the chest at 10:57 pm, police said.

"Mike called some girl a (expletive) and that's why he got killed," someone said. "Hugo Zarco just walked away like they had straightened everything out." Zargo
