Murdered July 15, 1992

Erica Espinoza

Erica Espinoza was murdered on July 15, 1992 at 5015 Rita Street in San Antonio, Texas at about 10:30 pm in a drive by shooting. Erica and Robert W. Alvarez were in her home at the time, getting ready to go to the front porch of her home. The front porch light was off and the living room lights were on. As Robert opened the front screen door, he saw a black vehicle passing slow, and as the vehicle passed, he heard six gun shots and saw flashes of light. He was in front of Erica at the time and she was behind him towards the middle of the room. Robert screamed for Erica to duck. As Robert yelled he also ducked down and was struck by a bullet in the groin. He closed the screen door and called 911.

As he was calling 911 he stated he heard Erica "gasping for air." He went to her and gave her mouth to mouth resuscitation and saw a pool of blood on the floor.

As he was giving Erica mouth to mouth, the vehicle fled the scene. The driver of the black Honda Accord, Scott Navarro, is now serving a 10 year sentence on a plea bargain. The shooter, Alfonso Hernandez has never been charged in the murder or attempted murder. Scott was never charged with the attempted murder.

Both Robert and Erica were shot with a .38 caliber gun which has never been recovered.
